SHORT FILM GRANTS
HOW IT WORKS
Applying for the Filmmakers Ranch Short Film Production Grant is an adventure all on its own!

Here's the scoop:

We've investing in your future through the use of equipment and facilities and we'd like you to invest in the future of Filmmakers Ranch in return. We do this through volunteer hours.

And here's the exciting part—these hours aren't just for the lone director/writer; the entire crew can pitch in. After all, they're also building their portfolio through this short film masterpiece!

Once you submit the application form below, we'll assess a fair market value for your time with us, balanced against a $25 per hour volunteer rate. For instance, if you're shooting on our cyclorama for half a day valued at $800, you'd need to complete 32 hours of volunteer time. With 8 crew members, that studio time could be earned in just 4 hours, making it a breeze!

Now, what's on the volunteer menu? A smorgasbord of opportunities: from maintenance tasks like painting, building, and landscaping to lending a hand in marketing efforts and assisting at studio events. For established professionals crafting their showreel with a short film, there's the chance to volunteer in our production department, helping us with internal photography, video production, or editing departments to help position Filmmakers Ranch as one of the best film communities in the country.
Before your production begins, you'll need to have completed all volunteer hours equivalent to the value of the studio days and equipment used.

Oh, and a quick heads-up: Crew members leading departments must know how to handle the equipment you'll book. This involves completing a course at the Film Crew Institute or obtaining a letter of competency from a film industry professional or from a recognized local education group approved by our studio.

Last but not least, you'll need your own insurance, and everyone involved must sign liability waivers. Don't fret; we've got your back on the insurance front, with an arrangement through a local broker offering affordable coverage tailored specifically for short films, be it for a single day or a week-long shoot.
